Sunday was the official day to move in based on the fengshui auspicious date, so we gathered all the things needed for the ritual and stood at our gate at 10++ in the morning..then it started to get haywire from this moment...
(1) Charcoal Stove "huo lu" to walk over
Alan tried to start this as soon as he could, but it didnt help that the fan delivery guy showed up and we had to leave the $200 fan outside the door since we needed to walk over the stove. Then the SCV guy showed up early and our neighbor looked at us in a weird way while poor me was holding Yuki who was barking at both of them! The starter refused to cooperate & the charcoal was rather messy..
(2) Finally went into the house and we had to do the following at once:
(a) Open all the windows (leave it OPEN the whole day)
(b) Boil a kettle of water and drink it
(c) Cook rice/ meal for the family
(d) Transfer the HUO Lu into the house and Cook red bean soup with it
(e) Put the "lucky fruits" onto a tray and put it on the table
So what happened was:
(a)After all windows was opened, half an hour later the curtain guy showed up and had to close the windows coz the wind was making it hard for him to trim the string curtains..DAMN IT!
(b)I boiled the water but tasted funny, even though i had cleansed it and boiled it twice at Elaine's hse the day before
(c)The actual stove at my place wasnt ready coz Citigas couldnt get here early enough. So i can only cook rice with Alan's mum's PRIZED rice cooker and bought a chicken from the chicken rice stall so that the family can eat together. BUT at this time, the rest of the family was shifting the remaining stuff from my old place..
(d)The HUO Lu was the ultimate, creating so much smoke that neighbors would think that my house was on fire..The house was so smoky that i think the SCV guy started to tear..And the BIG pot of red bean soup was taking forever to boil..
(e)By the time we packed the kitchen with Brenda & Dan's help, we tried to stuff most of the fruits into our bellies and thought of what 4D to buy..but didnt strike le!!
That was only a small portion of our shifting experience..the subsequent 2 days of hectic work made me ill from flu and over exhaustion and had to take MC from work. Emails flooded into my mailbox as we were in the midst of the integration so i didnt sleep much during MC too..the rest of the coordination work made me so mentally drained..
End Note: A big thank you to Brenda & Dan, Kerk & Joey and Daddy for helping out on the crazy move!! I have decided, no more shifting for at least 5 years!!But Alan was such a darling and helped a great deal (except for the part he yelled at me!)
